The contestants in the category "Multihulls" for the 2019 European Yacht of the Year Award are:
● Astrea 42
● Astus 20.5
● Aventura 34
While they were considered somewhat exotic 25 years ago catamarans and trimarans have seen stunning growth rates lately. In fact they are in such demand that wating lists of a year or two appear to be the norm. Why so? Well, looking at cruising cats one of the main reasons is the amount of space and privacy they offer – which explains their increasingly dominant presence in many a charter fleet. With trimarans it’s rather stability and performance that attracts owners. A varied segment of the market, and one with loads of innovative solutions.
The announcement of this year’s winners, will take place during the Flagship-Night on the first evening of the Boot Düsseldorf (19.-27.01.2018).

Offering a rare and compact size in the ever growing catamaran market, the Aventura is an interesting proposition for owners as well as charter sailors who don't want to fight weight and size. At less than 10 meters of length and with just 4.5 tons of displacement the 34 is handling rather effortlessly. It offers enough sail area to perform above average compared to the typically rather clumsy cruising multihulls. While the boat comes with three cabins and one bathroom as standard it also offers a two cabin/two bathroom layout.

Variable draft allows for exploring lakes, estuaries and tidal waters as well as traveling far with the 20.5 put on a trailer – which makes her one of the most versatile newcomers of the year.
